Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I give?
Tuition and fees have never covered the entire cost of a Richmond Law education. In fact, tuition only covers about two thirds of what it costs to educate a student for one year. The remainder must come from endowment income, corporate and foundation grants, and most importantly, annual gifts from alumni. You have benefited from the generosity of annual donors during your time at Richmond Law and making your first gift to the Law School helps ensure that future students will have access to the same opportunities that you have enjoyed at Richmond.

Why does my gift matter?
Every gift matters, and every gifts provides an opportunity for you to support future students in the form of scholarships, Summer Public Service Fellowships, or Bridge to Practice Fellowships.

Where will my money go?
While Richmond Law appreciates every gift, it is most in need of unrestricted funds – that is, contributions which are not designated for a specific project but can be used to address the Law School’s most pressing needs.

Or if you prefer, you may choose to specify where your gift is used. This gives you the opportunity to support what is most important to you at Richmond Law, be it your student organization, law journal, or a scholarship program.

How much do I have to give?
There is no gift minimum to participate in the Law Class Gift Campaign. With any gift of $25 or more, a special tribute will be sent to the Law Faculty/Staff member of your choice in recognition of their contributions to your Richmond Law education. Donors who make a gift of $35 or more, will be honored with cords at gratuation. A contribution of $250 or more will provide you with membership in the de novo 1870 Society, one of the Law School’s premier gift societies.

How do I leave my legacy?
The simplest way to participate in the Law Class Gift Campaign is to visit the online giving form or fill out a pledge card. You can ask a member of the Law Class Gift Committee for a pledge card, or grab one from one of our tabling events throughout the year.

You may also make your gifts in monthly installments so that your payments are spread throughout the year. Please contact a committee member or Genna Mirenda in the Office of Law Advancement at (804) 289-8028 for more information on monthly payments.
