Queally Hall, Ukrop Auditorium. While we frequently hear the term "globalization" in news coverage, do we really know what it means? How will globalization impact the place you live? How will it impact your company and your job? Associate Professor Jonathan Whitaker (Management Department) will provide an overview of historical and recent trends in globalization, including impacts to the structure of firms and nature of occupations. Building on this foundation, he will discuss the implications of globalization for your skills, your compensation, and your career. This program is sponsored by the Robins School of Business. Advance registration is requested.

Jepson Hall - Even casual students on the Civil War think they know the story of Gettysburg: the familiar cast, the enormous sacrifice, the crucial outcome, and the validation in the Gettysburg Address. If we pull back the camera a bit; however, and if we let it run a bit longer than usual, the story takes on different meanings. This program is sponsored by the President's Office and presented by Dr. Edward L. Ayers, president of the University of Richmond. Advance registration is requested.

Jepson Hall - What are the media images that we see of leaders and leadership actions in major Hollywood films and popular television series? How do these images inform and change the way we view our leaders in "real life"? How do films and television help to shape and change the demands we have of leaders, of ourselves, and of our society? Dr. Kristin Bezio, assistant professor of leadership studies, integrates the study of literature into the leadership studies curriculum. Her areas of specialization include leadership in literature and film, leadership in performance, and cultural and political history in Early Modern England. Her teaching and research focuses on the ways in which literature, drama, and film have influenced society and the way people think about issues of leadership and followership. This program is sponsored by the Jepson School of Leadership Studies. Advance registration is requested.

Jepson Hall - This presentation will focus on disconcerting long-term health care cost trends and related major developments facing health care providers, payers, and patients. Particular attention will be devoted to how and why Medicare payment policy has played such an influential political and financial role in the structure of modern medicine. The talk will conclude with an analysis of how both "Obamacare" and Medicare's governance are accelerating the reshaping of health care organization, finance, and delivery for all Americans (not just senior citizens). This program is sponsored by the School of Arts and Sciences and presented by Dr. Rick Mayes, associate professor of public policy. Advance registration is requested.
