Spiders Place Three In Top Six At Patriot League Championship

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Despite posting its best round of the tournament, a 13-over par 301, Richmond was unable to make up any ground at the Patriot League Championship on Sunday, finishing third in the six-team field and ending its streak of three straight conference titles.

After beginning the day four shots behind 36-hole leaders Boston University, an uneven opening nine had the Spiders more than 20 shots off the pace at the turn. Richmond started the back nine with a string of birdies to quickly close the gap to 10 shots but could never get the Terriers's lead to single digits. The Spiders finished with a 54-hole total of 915 (+51), 12 shots behind champion Boston (903) and eight shots behind the Naval Academy (907).

Senior Sophie DiPetrillo, the defending Patriot League champion, was the top Spiders finisher on the individual leaderboard, tying for fourth in the field of 35 with a score of 227 (+11) and earning First Team All-Patriot League honors. Senior Annie Collom and sophomore Lizzie Reedy tied for sixth at 228 (+12) and were both named Second Team All-Patriot League.

DiPetrillo leaves the Spiders women's golf program with the second-lowest career scoring average in school history. Collom is sixth on Richmond's career scoring average list.

"It's really hard to summarize what Sophie and Annie have meant to the program," said coach Ali Wright. "The year before they got here we came in fourth place at conference and I think we lost by 30 or 40 shots. Then they came in and created this winning culture that was awesome throughout their four years and it's something that's going to last with our program for years to come."
