Please join the Department of Religious Studies on Thursday, October 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the Jepson Alumni Center as we honor the career of Frank E. Eakin Jr. and launch the Frank E. Eakin Jr. Fellowships, an innovative new scholars program for Religious Studies students.

The celebration will feature a public lecture by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, entitled “Agreeing to Disagree: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently.” Dr. Levine is Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace; and University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies Emerita, Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies Emerita, and Professor of New Testament Studies Emerita at Vanderbilt University.

UR alumni Dr. J. Scott Hudgins, R’85, and Rev. Alexis Witt, ’14, will offer brief reflections on Dr. Eakin’s distinguished career as a teacher and mentor.

A reception with light refreshments starts at 6:00 p.m. The formal program will begin at 7:00 p.m.
