As we near the midpoint of the semester, we hope all is going well. Midterm can be a good time to gather feedback from your students about their experiences in your courses so far. See our tipsheet on “Gathering Feedback from Students” for ideas, formats, and resources for doing so! You can also reach out to the Faculty Hub to schedule a one-on-one consultation about designing a feedback survey for your particular goals and teaching context.

Who had the right to live within the new United States? In the country’s founding decades, federal and state leaders, reformers, and writers debated who should have the power to remain and who would be subject to removal. Because removal proposals were so common, many Indigenous people and free African Americans spent the earliest decades of nationhood organizing to protect their power to remain in their homes and homelands.

Baked into the inherent functionality of generative AI tools is the ability to create endless amounts of content, easily manipulate images, and vastly transform your digital footprint. As a technologist who spends a lot of time and energy researching the implications of these tools for teaching and scholarship, I’m both excited and unsettled by this reality. This month, I reflect on the optimal balance between digital and physical tool usage.
