Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes! Most K-12 students in the area are back in school this week. Adorable back-to-school photos will flood social media, marking the beginning of a new school year. (My son is a senior this year, what???) Our students will follow next week and turn our currently quiet campus into a cacophony of learning. It is a time of change in many ways. Hopefully, some of our upcoming sessions can help you with any changes you might be considering this semester, such as revising your syllabus, exploring how to use generative AI in your classroom, and/or rethinking how you grade.

As you prepare your courses for the upcoming semester, visit the Institution Page on Blackboard to find Syllabus Statements from various offices on campus. Faculty Hub Staff have also streamlined and centralized a collection of optional statements you may want to include in your syllabus, allowing you to copy and adapt them to fit your course needs.

Join the Faculty Hub for an interactive session exploring the What & Why of Specifications Grading on Thursday, August 21, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. (lunch included). Throughout the session, we will:
- Explain specifications grading, and why a growing number of faculty find it to be a powerful and productive alternative to traditional grading models.
- Identify common benefits and challenges that students and faculty experience in specifications graded courses.
- Articulate how specifications grading can align with a pedagogy of care and more compassionate, equitable assessment practices by promoting clarity, reducing anxiety, and supporting student autonomy.
- Discuss with colleagues how specifications grading might be adapted (or not) to fit your unique discipline/teaching contexts.
