Summer Writing Support |
We know that summer is often the moment when you’re able to focus most concertedly on your scholarship. This summer, we’re offering multiple opportunities to support your efforts. In addition to the events listed below, you might consider working with one of our Academic Writing Coaches or a one-on-one consultation with Faculty Hub staff for help with accountability, time management, and more.
Summer Writing Groups A writing group can provide structure, companionship, and support as you embark upon the sometimes enjoyable, sometimes frustrating job of engaging in your summer scholarly work. Working in a writing group can increase your productivity and your sense of connection to other scholars.
This summer, we’ll offer two types of writing groups:
- Writing in Community: These groups meet regularly to write together and help hold each other accountable for writing time. The members do not necessarily have a disciplinary connection or an interest to share each other’s work.
- Writing in Conversation: While these groups might choose to write together and help each other stay on task, their main focus is to come together to share and discuss each other’s writing. They will be organized based on interest areas: book proposal writing, STEM writing, Humanities writing, Social Sciences writing, and interdisciplinary exploration.
Learn more about these groups and register by May 15.
Publish and Flourish Workshop w/ Tara Gray May 23, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Nationally-recognized writing coach Tara Gray will join us for this interactive workshop to help you work and write smarter. Beginning a Research Program in Experimental Science Discipline at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI) (Virtual) |
Tuesday, June 20, 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. ($50 / individual) Graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and early career faculty in a range of experimental sciences rarely get an opportunity to learn about academic careers at primarily undergraduate institutions. Unfortunately, this leads many trainees to assume that such institutions do not offer their faculty productive and rewarding research careers. This workshop will provide trainees with first-hand experience from established faculty within such an institution, along with strategies for enhancing one’s research program within the context of undergraduate teaching and mentoring. In addition, this workshop will provide trainees with information about sources of funding and other resources to support their research with undergraduates. Explore more and register today. |
